Halfway Point: Joshiraku

Mmmm, J.C. Staff strikes again. Good pick, guys.

Here goes my pitch for Joshiraku!

Crouching Joshiraku, Hidden Girls und Panzer trailer.

Ok! Who likes cute girls? Who likes a lot of cute girls? Who likes graphics accurately transferred from the original manga by J.C. Staff? Who likes humor? A lot of humor? Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei-style humor? In fact, the very same writer? Who likes to watch cute girls engross themselves in Zetsubou Sensei humor?

Welcome. Take a seat.

The graphics for this is very nicely done - in fact, it's done almost exactly to the tune of the original manga. Great job. In fact, it looks somewhat like Toradora! but with thicker lines...but that might just be me (or it could be that J.C. Staff did indeed make both series - score one for my discerning eyes huehuehue). Anyways, you'll see plenty of cute girls in here, so don't worry about trying to gouge your eyes out while enjoying the humor of the series. I'm sure that after this season, Joshiraku and Rule 34 will join hands on the imageboards quite often.

The audio is also nicely done. Heavily centered around traditional Japanese-sounding effects, both the OP (Oato ga Yoroshikutte...Yo! by Goku-Rakujokai [Sakura Ayane, Koiwai Kotori, Yamamoto Nozomi, Nanjou Yoshino and Gotou Saori]) and the ED (Nippon Egao Hyakkei by Momoiro Clover Z (under the name Momokurotei Ichimon) and Yoshida Brothers) follow the craziness of the series pretty nicely and have a good, unique tune. They're also pretty addicting to listen to, so give them a whirl.

So onto the plot!

There is no plot.

Breaking the fourth wall at 3 minutes, 35 seconds. Good shit.

Did you expect one? Well you were wrong. Instead, Joshiraku has a lot of crazy shit. A LOT. Of crazy. Shit. It scales back on the amount of social commentary humor that Zetsubou Sensei presents, but substitutes in enough random wacko humor to make up for it. However, just like Zetsubou Sensei, Joshiraku does very well with asking a simple question (such as "What would you do if you won the lottery") and takes it to supremely extreme situations - often with hilarious consequences. For the people that may not even enjoy that so much, there's definitely a significant sprinkle of slapstick, reference-based comedy, and just whacked-out WTF humor for the whole family to enjoy. The episodic format even provides for a lot of classic moments, such as the 'dog scene'.

If you want to watch a funny series this season (and probably to ride out the next couple of seasons to come), don't miss out on this. Humor like what this series provides - one that doesn't rely on 99.99999999999% slapstick and tsukkomis - only comes by ever so often. Gogogogogo watch.

EDIT: Just found this link - "Joshiraku Anime Directed by Squid Girl's Tsutomu Mizushima".
Well...you know what to do.

Recommendation: You heard me. Watch it. It's a unique series. Watch especially if you liked Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Will probably be a contender for funniest series of 2012.
