Sacred Force (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 2nd A Insert Song)
Mizuki Nana
Let me tell you how hard it is to make an album (no matter how short) that isn't:
a) a rehash of old singles and the same boring shit, and
b) full of worthless tracks except for maybe one or two that everybody buys the album for.
VERY, VERY HARD.
It is, of course, incredibly hard to write the songs in and of themselves, but few have the genius to pull off decent songs in a limited time period, over and over again. And yet, Mizuki Nana does it with aplomb in this album BRIGHT STREAM. Consisting of three songs - Sacred Force, BRIGHT STREAM, and FEARLESS HERO, each is a delight to listen to. However, in order not to drool over one singer so much, I'll only Soundtrack Pick two of the three great pieces: Sacred Force and FEARLESS HERO. FEARLESS HERO is the more well-known of the two, since it serves as the energetic and optimistic OP for the second season of Dog Days, but Sacred Force, as an insert song in a movie to one of the more famous anime series in existence (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha), is easily on the same level as the other.
Starting out with a nice piano/chime/bell combo (the quiet, instrumental solo beginning which is becoming a trend), it quickly bursts into the electronic/rock combo, a signature of Mizuki Nana songs that we all know and love in the next ten seconds. The melodies are, of course, strong (e.g.: 0:38), but there are definitely unpredictable and creative parts galore throughout the main phrase that I was delighted to hear (0:44~0:53). Yes, she does fall into the standard format of going through the main phrase twice, guitar solo, vocal solo, then final repetition of the main phrase, but I gotta say that the vocal solo sent chills down my back and the guitar wasn't overused during the main phrase like it is with so many other songs. Overall, it's definitely a song that you should listen to at least once. I've already got it in my MP3 player - how about you?
