Overview
nearly jizzed in my pants was impressed.
Note: All instances of me being a lolicon should not be taken seriously
Jesus monkey balls.
This is an unexpected top-tier anime that has wowed me from the start of episode 1. You weren’t too thrilled by Fate/Stay Night? I wasn’t either.
You are new to the Fate series? No problem. Fate/Zero is capable of standing alone.
The start of episode 1 comes up. Excellent, solemn soundtrack right off the bat, with the whole “an ufotable production” stuff, transitioning to a snowy Einzbern Castle. I thought I was watching a movie, not a series. The artwork is stunning, with incredible attention to detail in the background. I Ufotable. That’s right, the same studio that brought us the godlike animation from Kara no Kyoukai. They undoubtedly repeat their success in Fate/Zero.
OP and ED are both above average. The OP is sung by LiSA from Girls Dead Monster. Yes, the lead vocalist of the fictional band from Angel Beats! isn’t stopping there. I am looping this song while writing this post. The ED is not as good but is still substantially better than the other trash we get for ending songs nowadays. The visuals for each are very well done.
The fucked up shit is always welcome, for me at least. It’s not as bad as other Urobuchi Gen works (see latter half of Amagami SS Season 2 post), but it's a little something to enjoy.
Don't be turned away by this freaky stuff; honestly, it rarely shows up in the show. But this instance served as a warning to me: this shit is serious business. Fate/Stay Night lacked this no-nonsense atmosphere.
General backstory
Magi compete in a battle called the Holy Grail War. The victor is granted one wish by the Holy Grail. Each participant, referred to as a "Master," summons a "Servant" from history or legend. There are seven classes of servants (Saber, Lancer, Archer, Caster, Assassin, Berserker, and Rider), and only one of each may be summoned in each War.
Final Thoughts
Fate/Zero has surpassed any expectations I had for it. Animation, soundtrack, fight scenes – in these categories, at least, it’s transcended anything I’ve seen before it. I believe Fate/Zero will be the best anime of this year. It’s certainly in my top 3 of all time. I look forward to the remainder of this season and the continuation in April.
The real reason I love this show |
Too bad she's only been in episode 2 so far |
What a lolicon
ReplyDeleteHow predictable
ReplyDeleteWait, although it's a prequel, will it really not mess up any future experience with the Fate/Stay Night series?
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I'm staying away is because I always try to watch things in chronological order. Is it fine to just watch F/Z?
I have high hopes for this show.
ReplyDeleteWell, off the top of my head, you will find out the identity of Saber immediately if you just watch Fate/Zero, which is revealed at the very end of Fate/Stay Night.
ReplyDeleteMy advice would be to power through the mediocrity of Fate/Stay Night. By the time you finish more Fate/Zero will have been released. That means a more satisfying marathon.
If you don't care about Fate/Stay Night, then just watch Fate/Zero because it can be standalone. Perfectly comprehensible, unlike a certain Kyoukai Senjou something I hear about.
